WINDSOR CASTLE

Come with me 40 minutes’ short journey out of London to see Windsor Castle –  the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world and The Queen’s favourite weekend home. With a history spanning 1000 years and an area of 5 hectares, there is an almost overwhelming amount to see.

Let me show you the highlights in a way that gets the most from your time. Our tour will include the State Apartments: the grandest in England, built to rival Versailles and furnished with some of the finest works of art from the Royal Collection, including paintings by Rembrandt, Rubens and Canaletto. We’ll see the Grand Reception Room, the Waterloo Chamber and the magnificently restored St George’s Hall where the most splendid Royal Banquets are held.

I’ll lead a walk around St George’s Chapel, one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in England; introduce the Order of the Garter, to whom it’s been home since 1348 and point out the resting place of ten Sovereigns. And no visit to Windsor would be complete without seeing Queen Mary’s Dolls House, the largest, most beautiful and most famous of its kind. I’ll reveal some of the exquisite details in this magical ‘toy’ that you might miss, such as the real books and wines, the toilets that flush, the working lift and the ‘secret’ garden created by famous designer Gertrude Jekyll. I shall ensure that you leave Windsor marvelling at the amazing art and architecture that you have seen.
